Description
AIR SEPARATION PROCESS
The bulk composition of dry atmospheric air is ~78% nitrogen and ~21% oxygen, and the remaining ~1% consists of argon, carbon dioxide, and trace amounts of other gases. These gases can be separated by the process of air separation, in which the air is compressed, cooled, and separated by molecular weight in a "cold box". After separation, the gases are compressed again for storage, transportation, or further processing. Ingersoll Rand has the technology and resources to supply the main air compressor (MAC), Booster air compressor (BAC), nitrogen gas compressor (GAN), Nitrogen recirculation compressor (NRC) and argon compressors.
The MSG LMAC is designed specifically to perform the MAC role with optimized aerodynamic efficiency. Interstage coolers are installed after each compression stage to remove compression heat and achieve high isothermal efficiency. MAC is the heart of ASU; its efficient and reliable operation is critical to the success and viability of an ASU project.
